Accessibility
The Queensland Academy is committed to accessibility across the platform, public communications, events and the program's services. Accessibility is not a feature added to the program. It is part of what the program is.
Our standard
The program takes WCAG 2.2 AA as its baseline standard for digital content. For physical events and printed material, it follows the equivalent built-environment and document accessibility standards published by Australian Government and Queensland Government resources. We treat all of these as minimums, not targets.
The platform
Each new platform feature is checked against the standard before release. The platform is built for keyboard navigation, sufficient colour contrast, text that can be resized without loss of function, clearly labelled form fields with clear error messages, and alternative text on meaningful images. Plain English is the standard throughout.
Public communications
Public communications follow the program's Public Information and Website Content Standards: plain English, accessible formatting, captions and transcripts for video, and alternative text.
Events
Event venues are assessed for wheelchair access, accessible bathrooms, hearing loops where there is spoken content, accessible parking and public transport access. Interpreters, for sign language or other languages, are arranged on request at the program's expense. Materials are shared beforehand for attendees who benefit from preparing, and breaks are scheduled to suit attendees with fatigue conditions. Every event invitation asks attendees what they need to take part fully, and we act on those requests.
Printed material
Printed material follows accessibility standards: a minimum 12-point body font with larger options on request, adequate spacing, high contrast and plain English, with alternative formats available on request.
Direct engagements
Academy Expert engagements are adjusted to suit the operator. Some prefer written communication, some video, some in person, and the program does not impose a single mode. Where an operator has specific accessibility needs, such as an interpreter, longer sessions or materials in advance, these are arranged.
Procurement
Where the program procures a service or platform that operators will encounter, accessibility is one of the procurement criteria. The program does not adopt a third-party tool that fails to meet accessibility standards.
Tell us about a barrier
If you encounter an accessibility problem, tell us through the program's support channels, by email to industry@queenslandacademy.com.au, by phone on 07 4802 5085, or through our Complaints and disputes process. Reports are answered within 5 business days, and substantive issues are added to the platform's accessibility backlog or the relevant event-design review.
Review
The policy is reviewed each year, informed by audit findings, operator feedback and any specific incidents, and the review is reported on in the annual evaluation.
